The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra with two large groups of volunteers: 1) musicians and 2) community members who assist the Music Director and the Executive Director / Business Manager with the responsibilities associated with performance events.
Opportunities for Musicians
The highly-disciplined and dedicated musicians who volunteer their skills to the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra come from across the 100-mile breadth of the North Olympic Peninsula. Musicians from high-school age through adulthood are welcome, and the Orchestra maintains its high performance standards by requiring auditions for each new player. Please click here for information about auditions, attendance and other expectations for musicians and review the Rehearsal Schedule. We also ask new players to complete a Personnel Form. Musicians may receive limited reimbursement for mileage, instrument maintenance/supplies and child care. Please download the Reimbursement Form for details.
Opportunities for Volunteers
The governing Board of Directors meets regularly throughout the year to oversee the business and financial needs of the Symphony. Members of the Board of Directors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds and talents, dedicated to supporting the Symphony's mission. The Board's main functions are to set Symphony budgets and raise funds to meet them. For more information on the responsibilities of the Board of Directors as well as a list of our current Board Members, please click here. If you wish to explore membership on the Board of Directors, please download and complete our Application Form and return it to the Symphony Office address listed at the bottom of this page.
In addition to the Board of Directors, other volunteers contribute many hours to sell tickets, raise funds, and support productions. The Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra Guild promotes and increases the visibility of the Symphony throughout the North Olympic Peninsula. The Guild welcomes all music lovers to help provide administrative support and fundraising events designed to ensure the financial stability of the Symphony. For more information about the Guild, please e-mail the Symphony office.
Friends of the Symphony help with administrative work, office work, ushering at concerts, and specialized tasks, such as writing program notes. Please e-mail Mark Wendeborn at the Symphony office if you wish to join this group. You can learn the names of Friends of the Symphony at the bottom of page 2 of the Individual Donors page.
